Keying the Mold |
|
|
| Keying the mold is an important process when pouring a two part mold. The process is cutting a number of notches in the mold to hold the top of the mold in place when you cast the piece. Note that the notches are wider away from the center of opening and actually is deeper away from the mold as well. Cutting the notches in this way has the function of grapping and pulling in the mold and pushing out as the same time. Another function of keying the mold is that the top will set at the correct depth and width when you cast the piece. |
